2014 Australian Grand Prix - Review
So the 2014 Formula 1 season is underway and it was a race that was dominated by one team and one team only and that was Mercedes. Throughout Winter Testing, it was clear that Mercedes would be dominating over the whole field and that's what happened. From the final results all the way through from Practice 2 to the final Race Result saw a Mercedes in 1st Place. The start of the race was quite eventful as Kamui Kobayashi crashed into Felipe Massa going into the first corner. As soon as the lights were out, it was clear that Mercedes had carried their form over from Winter Testing. After the first lap, there wasn't really that many talking points apart from lap 3 through to lap 15. Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel both retired due to power unit and engine problems respectively. As the race unfolded, we found out that Mercedes have got the strongest package throughout the whole field.
The final result was that Nico Rosberg won, Daniel Ricciardo finished 2nd and Kevin Magnussen finished in 3rd place but there was controversy after the race as Daniel Ricciardo was disqualified from the race result as the FIA had seen from the fuel sensors on his car that the fuel usage was higher than what the regulations say. Red Bull were quick to come out and say that the it was the sensors that were wrong but I suppose we will find out in April what the final result of this will be from the appeal that Red Bull has gone in for. This meant that Kevin Magnussen moved up into 2nd place and Jenson Button got promoted up into 3rd place but like I said before, we will find out in April what the final result will be from the result of the appeal.
In my opinion, it wasn't a bad start to the 2014 Formula 1 Season and I do hope that we will see some fantastic racing over the next 8 months of this new Formula 1.
